Slavic and East European Division - What We Do

ACQUISITION

The Division acquires its materials in three ways: donation, purchase and exchange.  Exchanges are maintained with numerous foreign libraries, and provide approximately one third of Division holdings.  Most materials are purchased from vendors specializing in specific countries or regions, either as firm orders or as part of an approval plan.  The Division also cooperates with other university libraries in collection development, participates in federal programs and consortia for acquisitions, collection-building and/or preservation. 

ACCESS

The Slavic Division provides access of many types.  We select materials, order them, receive them in our area, catalog them and send them to be labeled and shelved.  We provide instructional services for classes or individual students, provide reference assistance, and serve as liaisons with faculty.  We also represent the Division in Library, U-M, national and international fora.
