Access
Materials held by the Map Library must be accessed through the Map Library card catalog as well as through MIRLYN, because not all records are in MIRLYN. Staff members are available to assist users and locate and retrieve materials. Most items in the collection can not be checked out.

Reference
Reference assistance is provided to users during all hours of operation. Extensive reference services are available Monday through Friday. An appointment is advisable for extended assistance or for database searches. Database searches may be arranged through either the Map Library or the Information Center. For materials not held by the University of Michigan, interlibrary loan or photocopies of maps may be provided by another library. Standard and large format photocopiers are available at the Map Library (one of each), as well as a light table and other equipment.

Reference assistance includes bibliographic searching, analytical and historical bibliography, database searches, assistance with locating and obtaining cartographic materials, and assistance with spatial information. Class use of the collection, class presentations and other uses may be arranged through Map Library staff.

Copying Library Materials
Copying generally must be done in the Map Library. The Map Library has a standard photocopier and a large format photocopier. Color copying for some materials may be done in Serials & Microforms Services.

Photography & Scanning
Photography can be done by appointment with Photo Services, 601 East University, 764-9217. Contact Map Library staff for assistance in arranging photography of Map Library materials. Some materials can be scanned in the Map Library, and selected materials scanned for a fee in the College of Architecture + Urban Planning Media Center. Patrons may also do their own photography, but must bring their own equipment. Digital cameras may be available for loan from the Knowledge Navigation Center in the Graduate Library.

Interlibrary Loan
The Map Library loans some materials to other institutions. Individuals not affiliated with the University of Michigan should contact their local library for details. U-M affiliates seeking materials not held by the University should contact the Interlibrary Loan Department.
