Photocopying All the University Libraries have self-service photocopiers. You must purchase a copy card to use these copiers. The cards initially cost 50 cents but can be reused at no cost. These are the same cards that you might use for printing from the public printer (see the section on Printing for more information about this.) Individual copies generally cost 10 cents but any larger or more specialized copies will cost more. Check here for further details. Of course, it is also possible to check out any items that circulate and photocopy them elsewhere. Printing All printing done on the printers at the University Libraries is either charged to your ITCS account or is paid for using the copy card mentioned above. The Basic Computing Package from ITCS currently allocates only 50 pages per semester for faculty and staff. To see if your department has given you a print allocation and to see how much is left of the allocation, go to https://accounts.www.umich.edu/umce-bin/umce. For additional information about the Basic Computing Package services and allocations that are available to you, see http://www.itd.umich.edu/your-account/bcp.chart.html. You may also choose to print to a library’s public printer. Public printers are available at the Shapiro Undergraduate and Science Libraries, Hatcher Graduate Library, Art Architecture and Engineering Library and Taubman Medical Library. These printers will charge 10 cents per page. You must purchase a copy card which will cost you 50 cents in order to use a public printer. There is further information available at http://www.lib.umich.edu/help/computing/printing.html Downloading to IFS Space This page will let you know how much space, if any, you have available in your IFS filespace. IFS or Institutional File System lets you access your electronic documents and files from different computers. Thus, instead of printing a file, you could download it to your IFS space. To get more information about your IFS space go to http://www.itd.umich.edu/itcsdocs/r1070/ To access your IFS space outside the libraries, go to http://mfile.umich.edu and log in. There is a guide on how to save files (upload) to your IFS space as well as how to get the files from (download) to your IFS space. If you are using a computer at the University Library and you have been given IFS filespace, then you will find an icon for your IFS space when you login to the computer with your uniqname and password. Other Options If you have access to the University Library’s electronic materials remotely, then you may print or download those materials to any computer or printer. If you have problems doing this, or if you have questions about individual databases, please contact the Library. If you plan to view the materials in the Library, then consider bringing a disk, a CD, or a USB flash drive to download the files you wish to save. Call ahead to make sure that the specific library’s public computers will accommodate the storage device you plan to use. Many of the Library’s databases allow you to email an entry to yourself. Specific details on how to download or email entries will vary with each database. Please contact the Library to check for details. |
