The Undergraduate Library needs friendly people to work at the Circulation Desk. Your duties would include checking UGL and Reserves books in and out, answering phones, shelving books, and taking overdue fines. You would also help answer questions and refer patrons to services throughout the library system.
Hours: Generally, anytime between 8am-Midnight.
Salary: $6.25/hour

The Reserves Office (room number 2002, Shapiro UGL) employs several student hourly employees (typically six to ten) to assist library staff with putting materials on course reserves. There are two types of student positions in University Reserves (URES): office assistant and electronic reserves processing assistant. The office assistant job includes retrieving books and journals from the UGL and other campus libraries, updating the library catalog (MIRLYN) and URES database records, and miscellaneous clerical duties. The electronic reserves processing assistant job includes updating records for electronic reserve items in the URES database, scanning book chapters and journal articles, and checking scanned files for completeness and quality. The student employees will be trained to work in the lively office, but should be dependable, able to do accurate work and be flexible with work assignments. Most hiring for these positions is done in August/September. The work in this office is very cyclical with heavy work loads August through early October and December through early February.
Hours: Students are scheduled to work 8-15 hours per week, during our peak processing periods, Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. At other times of the year student employee hours will be reduced.
Salary: $6.25/hour for office assistant, $9.45/hour for electronic reserves processing

The Undergraduate Library Stacks unit needs people for shelving, straightening and sorting books, and supervising others in the absence of the full-time supervisor. Prefered are those who enjoy a relaxed, friendly atmosphere and have attention to detail.
Hours: Generally, anytime between 8am-6pm weekdays, and on Sundays from 12-4pm.

Staffed by a diverse group of undergraduate students,
PIC is an academic support program designed to help University of Michigan
students make effective use of the the many resources provided by the University
Library. The primary mission of PIC is to help students access and manage
information more effectively, supporting the goal of helping students to
garner a more successful academic experience. Hours: Generally, anytime
between 10am-10pm.
Salary: $6.90/hour & $8.25/hour

Note: All student positions in the Acquisitions Office have been filled for Fall 2005, as of 8/31/05.
The Serials and Acquisitions Office usually hires one to three students for Fall and Winter terms. Duties include sorting incoming mail, updating computer records and maintaining various office files. You would also process new books, bound periodicals and newspapers for patron use.
